n the winter season, the Ski Centre nearby has plenty of snow sports activities on offer, such as slalom, snowboarding and sledding. Hire skis, go to ski school or ski down one of the many slopes. Don't worry if you’re an inexperienced skier, there are slopes for all skill levels. The large terrain park nearby is constantly evolving and open every day throughout the season. After a lovely day in the sun and snow, relax at one of the restaurants offering both traditional Norwegian food and international dishes.
You can have a lot of fun in Rauland in summer as well there is a skate park with stunning views, a farm where children can meet various farmyard animals, a playground with slides and trampolines and many hiking trails that begin in the town. Hire a canoe for a journey along the water and spend the weekend fishing.
Rauland is located at the heart of romantic Norway, which is easily seen by visiting Neset Telemark. This area has a number of well-preserved farm buildings that date back hundreds of years. See the rose-painted furniture and eat homemade bread, followed by experiencing a little bit of traditional Norwegian entertainment in the evening. There are also concerts, literary evenings and dance performances at Vinjehuset in Åmot.
Throughout the summer, you can experience the Midtbø farm, where the renowned Norwegian writers, Halldis Moren and Tarjei Vesaas, wrote some of their most famous works. The farm is very intimate and it's easy to see how these writers were inspired here. Don’t forget to set aside some time to see the Dyre Vaa and Skinnarland sculpture collections, and also the Rauland Art Museum.
Rauland’s location makes it easily accessible from most parts of southern Norway, including Bergen and Stavanger in the West, Kristiansand in the South, and Oslo, Skien and Vestfold in the East. The nearest train and bus station is Bø, where you can travel to Rauland via Åmot – the commercial hub of the region.
