The Puerto de Conil, or the Port of Conil, is an excellent place to go for a stroll and take in some of the local character that is unique to the Conil de la Frontera area. Come here to see the fishing boats bobbing in the water, witness a fast-paced fish auction taking place, or capture photos of the pretty surroundings. You will also find several other points of interest within easy walking distance of the port.
Despite Conil de Frontera’s thriving tourist industry, the Puerto de Conil continues to be a hub for the traditional trade of fishing. Watch the fishermen bringing in their hauls each day, or arrive when the fish market is in progress to enjoy the atmosphere at its best. See the processes involved in auctioning off fish to the highest bidder. Expect to see everything from rays to cuttlefish and dogfish on sale.
You may also set out from the port for a daytrip on a boat. Sail along the coast, or join a guided scuba diving trip. Other water sports activities may be available, depending on the time of year.
Take the time to discover some of the other interesting sights in the area. Walk to the Faro de Cabo Roche, or Roche Lighthouse, located just minutes away. This lovely historic lighthouse is a wonderful viewing spot. It is a great place to take photos or just enjoy a moment of peace.
Also close by is the picturesque Sendero de Roche hiking trail. Remember to wear walking shoes when you visit the port so you have the chance to explore this pleasant pathway.
Explore the beaches close to the port, including the large Cala del Aceite as well as smaller, more secluded coves such as Cala del Faro.
When you visit the Puerto de Conil, consider staying in the nearby Camping Cala del Aceite campsite, which is just over 10 minutes away on foot. Alternatively, choose from the accommodations available in beautiful Conil de la Frontera, around a 10-minute drive along the coast.
