Those wanting to cool off after a day of exploring Alicante’s treasures will love this stretch of beach. If you’ve always wanted to swim in the Mediterranean Ocean, this is an ideal place to fulfil your dream. Located adjacent to Alicante’s famous harbour precinct, Postiguet Beach can easily be reached on foot from the city, making it an ideal candidate for a quick swim.
Don’t be put off by the beach’s proximity to the harbour Postiguet Beach is exceptionally clean. The beach is frequently awarded the Blue Flag in recognition of its cleanliness. It’s an ideal family beach, with shallow water that remains warm year-round. It may not have the watersports that attract visitors to the nearby Playa de San Juan, but for some that’s a blessing. Swim carefree, without worrying about windsurfers and Jet Skiers.
There are a number of clusters of rocks scattered along the 3,000-foot (900-metre) arc of sand which are perfect for exploring. Relax as you perch upon the semi-submerged boulders, staring out across the sea.
Take some time out from swimming and enjoy a cocktail or local beer from one of the beachfront bars at the harbour end of the beach. Here you’ll find several traditional restaurants serving fresh seafood, including fish soup and paella.
With its proximity to the city come the crowds of locals. On weekends Postiguet is known for its festive local atmosphere. Visit the beach during the week, or during the mid-day siesta period for a more relaxed experience.
Postiguet Beach is located on the edge of the city centre, and can be reached on foot, by tram or by car. There is some free parking in the streets near the beach. Postiguet is a public beach and there is no fee to swim.
