We had a lovely short stay at The Talbot. Rooms were clean and spacious, equipped with all the facilities needed for an overnight stay. The bedside book by local author was a lovely touch. The breakfast was extensive, and plenty of options for vegetarian and vegan guests. It would have been nice to have a vegan pastry option but great that a full vegan breakfast and condiments were on the menu. Waiting and reception staff were polite, kind and extremely helpful. My only complaint was that the bed in my room was uncomfortable (this wasn't the case for other guests). The mattress seemed lumpy and the bed base could be felt through the mattress, meaning I had a poor night's sleep. Aside from this, I could not fault the hotel staff and facilities, hence the 5 star review. Thank you for a very pleasant stay!

Lovely old coaching inn, but had to listen to the noise of the hotel generator all night as the old window in our room wouldn’t shut. After a sleepless night, we waited ages at breakfast, then reminded them we still hadn’t received our food. So we got a lukewarm offering that had obviously been forgotten about and congealed, so had to wait again for them to recook it. Not a great stay and expensive at that. Will be pursuing a refund.

This beautiful hotel and amazing, friendly staff is a must for any stay around this area. The rooms are gorgeous, and the breakfast (included) is sensational. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I cannot believe it isn’t a 5 star hotel. Will definitely visit again. Absolutely no complaints whatsoever.

The room was very comfortable , good size and bed very comfortable, nice to have tea/ coffee making facilities etc, however we were kept awake for most of the night by very noisy guests in the rooms below us, obviously a good time, shouting , laughing etc, banging doors , this started just after midnight and was still going on at 2.30am! We were un sure how to deal with this as don’t think there was anybody on reception. I told the receptionist in the morning when we were checking out and she apologised . The Talbot is a beautiful hotel but our stay was definitely spoilt by the noise !

I really liked the blending of the features of an historic building with modern amenities. There were explanations of the history of the building without it being in your face and looking like a museum. The buildings provided lots of pleasant areas to relax in. The staff were excellent and friendly.
