Parque Morelos, the city’s largest and liveliest park, has countless activities and events. Visit the vast lake lined by palm trees, large patches of grass, a zoo and a theatre. Peruse colourful flowers in the botanical garden after taking a dip in the pool. Bring your kids to the park to enjoy the family atmosphere and children’s activities.
Grill a barbecue lunch on the spacious lawn while friends and family play Frisbee or football. Set up a tent for shade in the afternoon sun. Sit next to the lake to have snacks and drinks for a relaxing break. Capture photos of the sparkling blue water from the floating bridge as jets of water rise up from the centre of the lake. Rent small paddleboats to take out on the water.
Take the kids to one of the children’s playgrounds and watch them run around. On a trip to the mini zoo and the small farm, you’ll get a close look at jaguars, black bears, parrots, iguanas and other exotic creatures. The children will also enjoy riding the little red train, which travels around the main sections of the park.
Watch a music concert on a park stage with huge speakers and lights. The range of musical acts spans pop and rock groups to electronic festivals. On weekends, go to the Xicotencatl Leyva Alemán Theatre, where street artists put on fun shows. Watch the children’s show at the Puppet Theatre.
No entrance fee is required for the park, which stays open to the public from morning until late afternoon. It closes on Mondays. The 1,045-acre (423-hectare) site, which was founded in 1987, has a large parking lot and bathroom facilities.
The vast green area of Parque Morelos lies in the eastern part of the city, about 6 miles (9.7 kilometres) south of Tijuana International Airport. El Trompo Interactive Museum Tijuana, the State Arts Centre and the Tijuana River border the park.
