Rooms are not very soundproofed, and quite small. Some parts of the room were dusty, and the windows didn’t keep out much noise. Spa area needed a refurb as it didn’t seem very clean. Bed was comfortable, and heating system worked well. Appreciated the black out curtains. Safe didn’t work & no fridge.

The staff were phenomenal, they went above and beyond to make the stay pleasant. The hotel itself is pretty run down, though our room was nice enough. We really enjoyed the dinners; breakfast was mediocre.

On arrival, when I went to check in, the male mentioned the total cost to pay with the additional fee for parking. I mentioned that I already paid for the room and he sarcastically said “well I’m telling you, you didn’t pay so that’s the outstanding fee”. After checking my banking I realised I hadn’t paid and that was my first impression on the way he interacted with me. Then he asked me if I’ll be using the facilities, to which I asked what facilities do you have again. He said again in a sarcastic tone! “Well and gym and pool, bar etc.” I said “I’m not sure maybe” because at that point I felt he had a poor attitude and did not enjoy my interaction with him. I then after checking in, went to the bar for something to eat, staff were friendly but the food was not tasty so didn’t eat not of my meal. At approximately 12am I entered my room and the smell coming from the bathroom was horrific, I then went to turn the tv on which was not working, tried to boil the kettle and that didn’t work either so I went to reception and told them the issue and was reassured that a member of the team would be there to check what the issue was in about 5-10 minutes. As I got back to my room a realised that I didn’t bring my room key so had to go back down, and the member of staff said I told you someone will be with you in 5-10 minutes before I even got to say I locked myself out of the room. He then gave me a new room key and I waited until about 2:30am and nobody came and I fell asleep.

We stayed for one night and was exactly what we needed. Very nice powerful shower and comfy bed. Staff managed to sort out a promotion for free parking too. Would recommend

room was average : new bathroom, bedroom ok with a comfy bed and good furniture but carpet stained in places, holes in the wall where the locker was changes not filled, paintwork a little faded. Diner : i had ramen : overcooked meat, not enough soup and vegetables, excess soya which made the soup undrinkable. Maybe i have been unlucky at it was the last 30min of serving, dessert overpriced for the quantity. swimming pool : small but good enough to swim, good temperature, shower broken-down, sauna / hammam : one was unusable (broken-down). check-in : ok check-out : supposed to be at 12pm but at 11.30pm the room's card stops to work so you have to go back to the reception to reactivate it.

Excellent but...
We would definitely return to the Mercure Sherwood and generally we had a very good one night stay. However I just can't quite give 5 stars. There was a Nespresso machine with 2 espresso cups and 4 pods (2 regular and 2 decaf) and 4 sachets of Nescafe Original (2 of each again) but just 4 sachets of milk. Seems to be 2 extremes but then not enough milk. Also, no biscuits! An own goal. Then there was the £12 overnight parking fee. Not a huge amount of money but not a cost I was expecting. Be wary of the cocktails. They may be on offer and taste great but the ice cubes went higher than the rim - 2 big sips and you're done. But, everything else was excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful, room was quiet, spotless with a very comfortable bed and pillows. The location is very good and just a short drive from town. The pool and sauna was very relaxing but bring a padlock for the locker - doesn't everyone!?
