Located in a suburb to the north-east of Paris, about seven miles as the crow flies from the Porte de Vincennes, this commune offers both rustic and modern areas, and is well known to cinema-goers.
A holiday in Noisy-le-Grand, the most heavily populated commune in the new town of Marne-la-Vallée, is overflowing with both charm and surprises – in particular for architecture and history lovers! This is something that Coluche and Laurent Voulzy were both well aware of, and they feature on the list of the town’s most famous inhabitants.
It is a green town, making it a pleasant place to live: 25% of the urban area is made up of green spaces. In the Northern area, with its country village feel, the River Marne and 3miles of riverbanks are prepped for walks and bike rides during your holiday in Noisy-le-Grand. Noisy-le-Grand oozes nostalgic charm with its open-air cafés by the water... In July, Noisy-Plage provides two weeks of deck chairs, sand pits and a giant slide. To the south lies the Yvris Amusement Park and Bois Saint-Martin. In the town centre, explore the Garden of Artists, the Salvador Alliende Park and, in the Mont d’Est area, the Promenade des Mares-Dimanches, close to the Les Arcades shopping centre.
Here in the town's business district you will find the famous Espaces d'Abraxas, created in the 80s by Catalan architect Ricardo Bofill. Consisting of three buildings, called Arc, Palacio and Theatre, this postmodern housing estate is a sight to behold! Several film makers have used it as the backdrop for their films, with Terry Gilliam's futuristic cult film "Brazil" being a particular example. Younger visitors may recognise the Palacio building from the Hunger Games trilogy.
And Noisy-le-Grand's historical heritage doesn't stop there. The Château Périac Buisson, now the town hall, and Saint-Sulpice church are both worth a visit, as is the Museum of Local History and Heritage, which houses tools dating back to when Noisy-le-Grand was a small wine-producing village. Long before that, even, Merovingian kings took up residence here. Recent excavations have made it possible to recreate the remains of Merovingian and Carolingian graves.
Served by 2RER lines (A and E) and 12bus lines, Noisy-le-Grand is the perfect affordable holiday destination between Disneyland Paris and the capital. The centre of Paris is only 15minutes away and the famous theme park can be reached in 20minutes.
Enjoy your stay!
