The modern, developed L’Arenas district may be the first part of Nice you see upon arrival, as it’s home to Nice Côte d’Azur Airport. Take time to explore more thoroughly and find gleaming office buildings, beautiful parks and fascinating museums.
The most attractive feature of L’Arenas is Phoenix Park. This beautiful space features palm trees, lakes and lawns. It is a great place to relax after a flight. Visit the centerpiece of the park, the huge greenhouse, one of the largest of its kind in Europe. Inside, discover a huge variety of tropical plants and browse exhibits telling the story of the region’s nature and wildlife.
Outside, search for even more wildlife. Swans, ducks and pelicans rest in the sun beside the serene lake. If you’re lucky, you may even spot turtles. A number of species, including lemurs, marmosets, porcupines and wallabies, are also kept in enclosures here. On the lake, look for an artificial island, Île des Temps Révolus (Island that Time Forgot). Explore the island, where there is a bamboo forest and wild grasses.
On the western edge of the park, find the Asian Arts Museum. Before going inside, take a moment to admire the eye-catching architecture. The polygonal, glass-fronted building reflects the blue sky and bright Mediterranean sunshine. A large pool in front of the building enhances the shimmering effect.
Once inside the museum, explore a fantastic collection of art from across Asia, with China, Japan and India particularly well represented. For a real taste of Asian culture, head to the tea pavilion, where a traditional tea ceremony is performed each Sunday afternoon.
Nice Côte d’Azur Airport is in L’Arenas, making it easy for visitors to access and explore the neighborhood upon arrival. If you’re coming from elsewhere in the city, the area is well connected. Ride local buses to the Aéroport/Promenade bus stop. Use Nice’s extensive tramway service to get around the area as well.
