The bedroom furnishings are a little tired and could benefit from tea & coffee making facilities. The pool area could also do with some redecoration/updating. "This is an excellent hotel, I wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Madeira. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly, everything is extremely clean, the breakfast is delicious with lots of choice. The room was big, tastefully decorated and well equipped with a comfy bed. The hotel is set in a botanic garden that’s a wonderful oasis and so relaxing. There is a great pool and other leisure facilities. There is also a tortoise. What more could you want? Look no further - stay here! "

"The hotel staff were very friendly. The highlight was the rooftop bar where we watched the sunset. The breakfast buffet was excellent. The room unfortunately did not have good sound insulation and we could hear people from next door and also loud bangs whenever doors are closed. "

"A nice hotel in the very center of Funchal with everything at hand. I was pleasantly surprised by daily room cleaning and towel change, as well as common kitchen where you can get utensils and plates. The building is in the old district so it's not the most modern, which goes for furniture as well. Everything was functional, the beds were comfortable. The sound isolation is not good, but in the night there is quiet period as well as no traffic on the street so no issues with noise. Only bad...

"It’s an old building but it was clean, staff were very friendly, everything was good, except that there’s no air conditioning and the fan was very noisy, another aspect is the beds are very hard, if they could change that, it would be great. Breakfast was excellent. "

"Could not open window and back door as cacourockes would come in, as well very noisy, towels were only changed once for a 14 day stay, there was a smell in the kitchen that came from the sewer. Sheets were not cotton so they were hot to sleep in. Out of 10 I would give 2. "

"This hotel was in a great position to walk into Funchal old town either along the promenade or down the many side streets. There is also a lovely park nearby with cafes. We got the Aerobus from the airport which drops you off within a 2 min walk (stop number 10) 6 euros. The breakfast every morning was amazing, continental,full english,cereals,fruit,pastries even smoked salmon on some days. There are 2 available swimming pools. One is a short walk over a bridge and down by the sea. The smaller one is in the garden which we used every day. All the staff were very helpful and welcoming. Our room was clean and tidy and very quiet."

"The hotel is above a shopping centre without any grounds around the hotel, however, it is in an excellent location within easy walking distance to the old town. All the staff were very helpful throughout our stay. The bedroom was sleek and modern with an ‘open plan’ shower/wash area. The beds were very comfortable with 3 different pillows varying from soft to firm. There are no views other than from the rooftop swimming pool and bar area but this didn’t significantly detract from the stay as we were out most of the time. The breakfast buffet was excellent with good quality ingredients and freshly squeezed orange juice. We were also amused by the mobile robot which took the dirty dishes back to the kitchen. Overall the hotel lives up to it’s 5 star billing, is excellent value for money and I would highly recommend a stay at the Vine the next time you are in Funchal."

Great hotel - faultless

"Honestly, I thought this hotel was great. I enjoyed my room: clean, with a great shower and it had the benefit of a fridge and a balcony with sea-view. The daily room service was also appreciated. The hotel's team members were friendly and efficient. It had a decent in-house restaurant, but there was also the option of walking for no longer than 10 minutes to get to other restaurants. Good sized pool(s) with plenty of seating. "
