Spend a day enjoying the endless sunshine, soft sand and warm water of Mocambo Beach (Playa Mocambo). Mocambo Beach is one of Boca del Río’s most popular beaches and well known for its recreational and water-based activities. Come here to enhance your tan, dine on fresh seafood at waterfront restaurants and appreciate the views across the Gulf of Mexico.
The extensive sweep of sand provides ample space for beachgoers to find a quiet spot and relax. Go for a refreshing swim in the mild, shallow water. Lifeguards patrol the area, making it a safe place for children and visitors of all swimming abilities. Spot the schools of colorful fish that dart around the seabed and the rocky breakwaters.
Find shade from the sun beneath the palapas, which are open-sided and thatch-roofed umbrellas that are available to rent. You can also rent loungers for added comfort. Sample plates of fresh fish and seafood at the beachside restaurants. Typical dishes from the state of Veracruz are huachinango a la Veracruzana (red snapper with a spicy tomato salsa) and pollo encacahuatado (chicken in peanut sauce).
Participate in watersports such as scuba diving, snorkeling, speedboat tours and water toboggan rides. Gallop along the seashore on horseback. Arrange excursions at Boca del Río’s many tour operators. Have fun in the pools and on the waterslides at Parque Acuatico Mocambo. This family-friendly park sits at the beach’s northern end.
The beach is a short walk from the Zona Hotelera, a hotel zone where some of Boca del Río’s most prestigious accommodations are located. If you aren’t staying here the easiest way to get to the beach is via taxi. The historic center of Veracruz is about 5 miles (8 kilometers) to the north.
With consistently mild temperatures, you can enjoy Mocambo Beach year-round. Don’t miss other nearby beaches, including Antón Lizardo Beach, Martí Beach and Playón de Hornos.
