Miranda de Ebro

Travel Guide

Miranda de Ebro is a historical city, traditionally known in Spain as the “horizon viewpoint,” and is home to some of the most special hidden treasures of Spain.

Holiday in Miranda de Ebro and see how the River Ebro divides Miranda in two: to the west, the historic old town and on the east bank, the modern neighbourhoods. From the city’s train station, head west and cross the emblematic Carlos III bridge, guarded by two lions, the city’s most traditional scene.

Book one of our deals for cheap trips to Miranda de Ebro and visit the centre’s Plaza de España. This square is home to what is now the town hall, a Neoclassical building dating from 1778 with a monumental staircase. At the centre of this great red-stone square is the Glorieta de Tejas Verdes, a pavillion used during the opening ceremony of the traditional fiestas of San Juan del Monte.

The locals often use this square as a meeting point, and it is here you can see two other must-see historic buildings, the Casa de las Cadenas and the Casa de los Urbina, both dating back to the 16th century. The design of these palatial mansions mimics the Italian Renaissance palazzi, although the most impressive part of the Casa de las Cadenas are the chains that hang over the entrance, and which give the building its name.

Take in the Iglesia de los Sagrados Corazones, a Catholic church that dates from the 16th century located in the old convent of San Francisco. A mix of Renaissance and Baroque styles, the bell-gable with three bells over the main portal and the great Franciscan shield on the façade are particularly noteworthy.

The Castillo de Miranda de Ebro is another must-see, a castle that reaches into the sky atop La Picota, a hill in the heart of the historic old town. You can reach this 16th century fortress from the Centro de Interpretación de Miranda Antigua (the Miranda Interpretation Centre) and the botanical gardens located on the terraces of the slopes of La Picota.

With ourpackage deals to Miranda de Ebro you can discover all these places for yourself. Once there, we really recommend you try a variety of black pudding called delgadilla, it’s a real local delicacy.
