The palm-lined neighbourhood was designed in 1922 by visionary city planner George Merrick. His aim was to create a commercial retail district that would draw in the crowds and where every business would be just two blocks away from the main strip. 90 years on, it's still pulling in the crowds.

Visitors can reach Coral Gables from downtown Miami by Metrorail or Metrobus. There is a new way of getting about in the Gables – a vintage bus called the Coral Gables Trolley. This runs every 10-15 minutes throughout the day.
