Nestled snugly in a bay between Capo di Sorrento and Capo di Massa, Marina di Puolo is one of Sorrento’s hidden gems. This unspoiled fishing village is home to one of the prettiest beaches in Sorrento and as such, is a popular spot for sunbathing, swimming and relaxation.
Just a stone’s throw south of Sorrento, this volcanic sandy beach is easily reached on foot. If you fancy taking the scenic route, wind your way along the glazed-tile path, through the sweet-smelling lemon groves and rainbow-hued gardens, taking in the spectacular views of Mount Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples along the way. Bear in mind that there are a few steep sections but nothing too taxing.
There are plenty of sunbeds, deck chairs and umbrellas available to rent so all you have to do is lie back and bask in the hot Italian sun. This stretch is particularly suitable for families as the low tides and sheltered areas are very safe for all kinds of water activities. Paddle or swim in the cerulean-blue waters before enjoying an al fresco lunch in any one of the delightful cafés that line the beach. Alternatively, if you have brought your own provisions, spread out that picnic rug and delve into your hamper of goodies. In the evening, a number of excellent restaurants offer a delectable range of fresh seafood that is literally just off the boat.
Work off your meal with a gentle stroll along the expanse of sand and watch as the fishermen unload their catch and tend to their nets. The sunsets along the Sorrentine peninsula are renowned for their beauty so make sure to have your camera handy.
This fishing village and expanse of sand is picture-postcard perfect and is a great option for those who wish to spend a hassle-free, lazy day at the beach.
