Mansfield is Nottinghamshire’s largest market town located right on the edge of this English county’s beautiful countryside. Whether it’s for a weekend break or a visit with the family, Mansfield and Greater Nottinghamshire has plenty to explore, in this English County made famous by the legendary stories of Robin Hood.

Sherwood Forest is just a short distance from Mansfield classified as a National Nature Reserve covering over 450 acres, it is perfect for children to explore. There is an annual Robin Hood festival each year, well worth taking the children to.

Whilst staying in Mansfield, use its central location to explore the rest of Nottinghamshire. Its many forests and museums make for perfect days out.

Nottinghamshire

Nottinghamshire has a wide selection of restaurants to choose from, all serving lovely local produce. If it’s Michelin star fine dining restaurants or a local fish and chip shop you’re after, they can all be can be found in Nottinghamshire. The newly emerging ‘curry quarter’ in the city is well worth a visit for foodies enjoy a taste of international cuisine using all locally sourced produce.

Interested in culture and history? Then you will not be disappointed with a visit to Nottinghamshire’s National Civil War Centre. The first centre of its kind in the UK that focuses solely on telling the story of the British Civil Wars. Newark was chosen due to the vital role it played in the civil wars, laying at a pivotal crossroads of the Great North Road, Foose Way and River Trent. King Charles I raised his standard in Nottingham back in 1642.

Alternatively a visit to Nottingham Industrial Museum offers a different perspective on the area, with its unique collection of working steam and diesel engines. The museums exhibits reflect local industries such as mining, tobacco and pharmaceuticals.

Theatre lovers will enjoy a visit to the Nottingham Playhouse in Nottingham city centre. The Playhouse provides a wide variety of drama, music, comedy and, of course, pantomime.

Children will enjoy a visit to the City of Caves, a visitor attraction in Nottingham consisting of a caved network, carved out of limestone. In the past it was used as an air raid shelter, accessed from Broadmarsh Shopping Centre. Suitable for adults with audio guides providing interesting snippets of information on the city itself and what life was like all them years ago.

Fans of cricket can enjoy a visit to the local cricket ground at Trent Bridge. If you’re lucky you might catch a game of cricket or perhaps get a glimpse of the England Cricket team.

"Decent stay, the room was spacious and clean, but the shower didn't have any warm water. The bath in the room gave very hot water, but not the shower!! We did report this to the reception person as we checked out, but FYI - room 424 did not have hot water in the shower!"
