Upmarket and away from general tourist spots, this small port town has a pleasant waterfront promenade and several excellent restaurants.

Llafranc is a scenic town with a little bay. Its lovely promenade branches out to reveal low-rise whitewashed houses and glamorous hilltop villas. A favourite of artists and celebrities, including Salvador Dalí, this town is an ideal setting for picturesque coastal walks. Enjoy a fresh fish meal while looking out over the beach.

Spread out a towel on the golden sands of the town’s half-moon-shaped beach. Rent a kayak or motorboat and travel to the coves and caves found on either side of the bay. Sign up for a glass-bottom boat excursion to view interesting marine life swimming below the surface of the water.

Go scuba diving in the waters off the coast and discover three gorgeous underwater mountains. Known as Els Ullastres, this trio of submerged peaks is located less than 2 miles (3 kilometres) off the coast. The outermost of these three mountains is the most striking, standing at 157 feet (48 metres) tall and descending to a depth of 20 feet (6 metres). Look for groupers, yellow gorgonians and large eels in the clear water.

The warm sands of the town’s beach merge into tree-lined Passeig Cipsela. Stop here for a drink at a café along the oceanfront. Llafranc is known for its fresh seafood. You can also try a traditional Catalan dish, such as pa amb tomàquet, which is bread covered in tomato, oil and garlic. Head into town for more dining options and to admire the numerous 20th-century villas. Summer markets often take place around Plaça del Promontori, a popular local meeting point.

Follow the steps from the harbour up to Cap de Sant Sebastià. This viewpoint offers some of the most spectacular scenery in the area, stretching out to sea. You’ll also find a pretty lighthouse and a hotel set in a repurposed defensive tower. Explore the ruins of a pre-Roman Iberian settlement, which is well-labeled with multilingual panels.

Llafranc is located 1.2 miles (2 kilometres) northeast of Calella de Palafrugell. Reach the town by a pleasant walk along Cami de Ronda.

There are some steep hills so if you have a leg or back problem you may want to hire a car to get around as most of the area is like this. We didnt bother though as we enjoyed the walking. The botanical gardens and lighthouse are great to visit.
