Landscape Arch is a wide bridge-like arch connecting two large rock formations in the Devils Garden area of Arches National Park. It is one of the world’s longest arches, with a span of 290 feet (88 meters). Take photos of this spectacular natural formation, which would look more at home on Mars or in the Stone Age environment depicted in The Flintstones.
Walk with your family along the 1.5-mile (2.4-kilometer) paved nature trail that leads to the arch. It is a fairly flat and easy hike that can be completed by kids. Take regular water breaks to stay hydrated during the hike in this hot, dry setting. The best light for photos is at sunrise and sunset.
Arrive early in the morning to avoid the busy periods. Appreciate the serenity and seclusion when you are alone in this natural labyrinth of arches and caves.
Note that the path that once passed beneath the arch was closed after three slabs of sandstone fell from it. Like most of the park’s rock structures, it is composed of Entrada sandstone that is common throughout Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico, Arizona and Utah. The arch’s narrowest part is only 6 feet (1.8 meters) thick and it could collapse at any moment.
Wander through the arch’s surrounding area of Devils Garden, which has one of the world’s largest concentrations of natural rock arches. Embark on the Devils Garden Trailhead and the Spur Trail.
Purchase a 1-week vehicle entrance pass for this park or an annual national parks pass providing access to numerous locations across the country. The park is open year-round check the official website for the specific daily opening times.
Find Landscape Arch in the northern Devils Garden section of Arches National Park. Drive north for 18 miles (29 kilometers) from the park’s southern entrance to get here. Drop off the car in the parking lot, which has 150 spaces. Try to see nearby attractions, including Partition Arch, Navajo Arch and Wall Arch.
