Disliked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities, property conditions & facilities
This certainly is not a guest house but a hostel dressed up a bit like Ryokan - a traditional Japanese style housing. It does indeed have tatamis, but that's all. The rooms are tiny with just a closet and a small table, the tatami-beds are barely anything, like sleeping on a floor (and we stayed in two real ryokan guesthouses after this one and the bedding was much more comfortable). The walls are just paper, thus that's all that stands between you and your neighbours - you can hear EVERYTHING that people are saying. The owners request people to stay silent after 10PM, but the hostel staff leaves at 10, thus it is up to the guests themselves to stay silent. So if you have a bunch of backpackers or tourists making noise around you until midnight - nobody will stop them from doing so. The place is relatively clean, but the showers are shared, so this again depends on the other guests - in most cases you will find the shower full of hair of the previous user. Check-out is 11AM and every hour of late check out is 10,000 yen or 100 USD, which I understand for enforcing the rules, but still seems quite excessive. If you're a backpacker and don't care about facilities much, it's an ok place and quite central. But if you want at least reasonable comfort, then this is NOT the place. The hting I dislike the most most is dishonest advertising - if you're a hostel just say so, don't pretend to be a guesthouse as this raises certain expecations. Not recommended at all.
