Kleine Scheidegg is a pleasant mountain pass area dwarfed by towering mountains. Trails meander through the green valley and up the hillside to the 7,760-foot (2,060-meter) pass. Trek with your family along the well-paved paths for spectacular views in this rocky region.
Dine at one of the restaurants and cafés near the summit of the mountain pass, where you will find several hotels. Among the most iconic is the Hotel Bellevue des Alpes, which was inaugurated in 1840. Bring snacks and refreshments for a picnic in this scenic area. Relax on one of the benches in the upper reaches and sample the traditional rösti potato dish.
Enjoy the panoramic views in all directions of the charming valley and the dramatic peaks, which are capped with snow for much of the year. Gaze up at the rocky giants of the Eiger, the Mönch and the Jungfrau mountains.
Hike along the popular Alpine Pass Route that incorporates this mountain pass. Join the Jungfrau Marathon that terminates here in September. Consider riding a train up to Jungfraujoch, which, at 11,332 feet (3,454 meters), is the highest point accessible by rail in Europe. Capture photos of the picturesque views from the train windows.
The region has been popular with vacationers since the early 19th century. It was previously an important trade route to Italy via the Grimsel Pass. The mountain pass has also been used as a location and setting for several movies, including North Face and Clint Eastwood’s The Eiger Sanction.
