The municipality of Kempele near the city of Oulu is famous for its beautiful countryside. Summer is the best time for a holiday in Kempele, as you can easily visit the whole area by bike by following one of seven bike routes. Cycling tours are an excellent and inexpensive way to explore Kempele and the traditional Finnish countryside. For a break, cool off at the old rock pit lake at Ouluntulli, an old quarry transformed into a lovely swimming beach.
Nearby is the Kempele Museum which houses many old buildings from around the region, including a windmill and fish sheds. You should also visit the Kempele Old Church with its tall church tower, which was once an important landmark for seafarers.
