Holbaek was reportedly founded by Valdemar the Conqueror in the thirteenth century as a market and port town, and the original street layout is largely still intact to this day. While the fjord sets the scene for kayaking, fishing as well as swimming, Tuse Naes, located just north of Holbaek, is a lush, hilly area where you can hike and bike on the beautiful path Fjordstien.
It's easy to take a weekend stay in Holbaek, as you can get trains from both Kalundborg and Copenhagen to Holbaek. There are also several buses in the town that can connect you to the main sights on a daily basis. If you arrive by car, you can follow the Holbaek Motorway directly from Copenhagen to Holbaek. Holbaek is located 45 miles west of Copenhagen Airport. There are frequent regional trains connecting Copenhagen and Holbaek. Note that you may find Copenhagen written in Danish as Kobenhavn in Danish timetables.
