This is one of the older inns on Miyajima; however, the dedication of the staff, and the service and kindness they provided is top notch. In a way, this is not particularly unusual in Japan, where especially the older institutions still provide service and consideration far above expectation. Yes, the facilities are not new; however, they are of excellent quality, and have been well-maintained.
Rooms are well-kept, and again, dated; however, I personally find this charming. This facility is what's written about in guide books. Books!
Value was exceptional, and much effort was put into the ingredients, presentation, and service during dinner and breakfast. Take a moment to admire the cat-sized koi in the lobby. Hotel is a little walk past the Itsukushima Shrine, a stone's throw from the water, in a quieter residential part of town. Shuttle ride back to the ferry terminal was entertaining as it wove through the back streets of this otherwise busy tourist town.
I look forward to returning.
