In Hasle on Bornholm there is one very special beach called Lystskoven, with a forest reaching all the way down to the sand. This fine sandy beach attracts many visitors and will certainly be a highlight of your stay. It is several miles long, and you will easily find space to park if you have a car.
No holiday to Hasle is complete without tasting the Bornholm specialty – the delicious herring, known as "Sun over Gudhjem". Bornholm is known for its herring smokehouses, many of which can be found in Hasle, such as the Hasle Smokehouse, where you can enjoy a tour and tasting if you are in a group of at least four visitors. The old Peter Nielsen’s Smokehouse, Søndre Bæk18 in Hasle, now restored and converted into a museum, definitely merits a visit.
Not far from the town's square you will find the small but charming Hasle Church, and in the middle of town Grønbechs Gård, an old merchant's house which has been converted into a museum. You will discover exhibitions of paintings, sculptures, jewellery, design and ceramics (a Bornholm speciality). The museum shop has a selection of exciting gifts.
Hasle has many paths for walking and cycling. Hire a bike and enjoy a ride along some of Denmark's most beautiful bicycle paths and explore some of the nearby towns. You can even cycle to the island's main city of Rønne, which is only 7 miles from Hasle. Bornholm offers good public transport connections, so you can quickly get to the ferry port or the airport in Rønne, which offers domestic flights to the international hubs at Copenhagen and Billund.
After a day of excursions and sightseeing you can settle down in the charming Hasle Harbour or on the square in Hasle near the old Hasle City Hall from 1855. In the streets around the square you will find most of the town's shops and eateries.
