Travel Guide
Hanover which includes café lifestyle
Best known as the home of Dartmouth College, this New Hampshire town also offers a lively cultural scene beyond the campus.

See why Hanover is such a popular tourist destination, with its combination of small-town charm, collegiate culture and New Hampshire’s scenic beauty. Hanover is the ideal college town, the home of Dartmouth College. This Ivy League school has a campus befitting its prestige. View the matching Georgian brick buildings and manicured green as you stroll across the campus.

Spend hours exploring the exhibits from Dartmouth College’s Hood Museum’s 65,000 objects. See pieces by Georgia O’Keeffe, Rockwell Kent, Pablo Picasso and other important names in the art world.

Hopkins Center for the Arts is next door. Designed by Wallace Harrison, it foreshadows his most famous creation, Lincoln Center in Manhattan. Visit “the Hop” for concerts, dance performances, art shows and movie screenings.

Dartmouth’s Baker-Berry Library is a popular destination for students and tourists. Go to the reserve corridor downstairs to see José Clemente Orozco’s magnificent mural. Epic of American Civilization traces civilization in the Americas from the Aztecs to present day. Afterward, head next door to Sanborn House to enjoy a traditional afternoon tea.

Enjoy a meal at one of the restaurants in downtown Hanover or have a drink at a local bar to mingle with students. Browse through several boutiques where you can buy a unique gift or souvenir.

Hanover features the picturesque nature that draws so many tourists to New Hampshire. Walk on a portion of the Appalachian Trail, which crosses through the town along Main Street.

Montshire Museum of Science is in a different town and even a different state, but it is actually just across the bridge from Hanover. Visit this hands-on museum in Norwich, Vermont where science and math are brought to life through a series of interactive exhibits.

Cross state lines at Ledyard Bridge which spans the Connecticut River to connect Hanover to neighboring Norwich, Vermont. Note the large stone spheres at each end of the bridge.

"We had the best time here. So peaceful and beautiful. The place is down a dirt road, so probably need 4wd in the winter and definitely bring groceries since the closest dining is a bit down the road. The place was spotless clean, the most comfortable beds, and beautiful setting."
