  • I would not usually consider a garden a must-see experience, but I am really glad a local told us to visit Hamilton Gardens. The experience of wandering through a maze of hedges that open into perfectly cultivated gardens plucked complete from other countries and other eras was quite possibly the closest I will ever come to feeling like Alice in Wonderland come to life. You never know what magical sight waits around the next bend in the path.

  • A few kilometres downstream from Lake Taupo the river changes to some rapids for a short distance. When the rapids finish there is a drop which creates a waterfall. It all ends with this scene which is stunning. Only a 30 second walk from the car park to the river this shot was taken about a 5 minute walk further downstream on the main track at sunrise.

Probably the best condition backpacker I've stayed in. Good location only half a mile from centre and blundell park. Facilities were in good order at all times. Only criticism was that my room was never cleaned in the time I stayed.

Staff friendly

I stayed in a private room so my stay was quiet. The staff is very friendly. The kitchen is spacious and well equipped. Cleanliness could be improved.

The room was ok for the price and the Toilet and shower was clean. It seams the walls are made from carton as you can hear the people talking next door. I liked the stay but in Hamilton the City council made it really hard to find a spot for the car in the central, when the free parking from the hostel is booked out. So not cool Hamilton Council :( Thanks HH

Well located, not far from the river and shopping etc. It is a bit of a maze which isnt a huge problem but it would help to have signs to the bathrooms. You end up wandering round hoping to bump into them! Kitchen and living room very spacious and a nice communal balcony. Very big problem with the cooker as two rings were very broken in that you couldn't be sure if it would collapse under a pan. Granted, there was a sign saying to not use them but if you didn't read English, you may have has a big probably (it was being replaced the morning i left however. It's more a point about how to overcome the problem). Did the job but did seem a little soulless
