"Hotel needs a serious upgrade / revamp, walls dirty and carpets worn and dirty. Couch in room dirty; horrible mattresses and pillows; hair in beds; carpet stained, worn and dirty; walls marked and scuffed; kitchenette terrible - taps and sink dirty, extractor oily and smelly. "Myself and my wife loved staying here it was a beautiful guest house very traditional. We were visiting family so found tbe guest house to be very convenient . If i had to moan about anything it would be the thin walls between the rooms we could here the couple in the next room very clearly which was a little annoying at times but usually only when we wanted to sleep. And again its a very small moan becuase they may of been loud people. The breakfast was great and Siri the cat kept us company...

"Covelo-Original is exactly what a small guesthouse should be. Our stay was perfect. The Covelo is in the heart of old town and steps away from restaurants and just over the bridge is the religious centre. The room had everything needed (fridge, kettle, coffeemaker, all of which aren’t common in a POR room). The bed was incredibly comfortable and the building has been renovated and modernized yet maintains both original and quirky charm. Staff are amazing and they go the extra step providing...

"The staff and service is excellent. The individual rooms are a distance away from the lobby/restaurant, which I didn’t like so much. That, however, is secondary to the excellent staff and the large comfortable rooms. The wine tasting was extremely well done."

"I want to point out that the only thing positive in our stay was the sympathy of the staff, all the other areas didn't go well. First of all, they gave us an accessible room that was not shown in the photos, whenever I went to the bathroom it looked like I was in a hospital. The floor had stains all over the carpet and the AC didn't work. Don't recommend it. "

"If you’re looking at this hotel, do yourself a favor and stay there. The experience is outstanding. Quiet and very private. The owner gave us a tour of the property, which used to be a vineyard owned by his family. Quite amazing how well they renovated the property. Dinner was 5 star. Wine selection the same. My wife and I will stay there every time we travel back to Portugal. Two thumbs up!"

"This is the second time we stayed at this property, whenever we are in Braga it is the only hotel we frequent. The staff is friendly and accommodating. It is in a perfect location, most sites are within walking distance. There are numerous restaurants to choose from. The room is small, but extremely comfortable. The breakfast options are tasty. I would strongly recommend this hotel. "

"This was our second stay at the Hotel da Oliveira. All being well, we shall be returning again. It is a most elegant space in the historical quarter, with themed guest rooms (ours was named after the inscription of the city on the UNESCO World Heritage List). LOCATION: Situated at the very heart of the Centro Historico, the hotel is a short taxi ride from the train station and the bus station (even walkable with light luggage). HISTORY: The elegant breakfast verandah of the hotel opens out onto the historical Largo da Oliveira, while the main entrance to the hotel opens onto the Rua de Santa Maria, said to be the first road built in Portugal (Guimarães being where Portugal's history begins). At its upper end, the Rua de Santa Maria culminates in the Paço dos Duques de Bragança and the Castelo de Guimarães, while at its lower end it becomes a part of the Largo da Oliveira, with the Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Oliveira. While the latter is still a living church, a part of it has been converted into the Museu de Alberto Sampaio (at the height of the summer holidays, the museum stays open late into the night). Guests of the hotel are within walking distance of all key sights, and a walk away from the Teleférico de Guimarães, the cable car that transports one to Monte da Penha. "
