Gold River has a super remote location, right in the middle of fantastic mountains. The motel has a mountain movie-like ambience for its setting. Very basic motel, cheap and cheery.

Pretty rough. Linens and furnishings were really old and thrift store quality. Floor was sticky. Breakfast was self serve using shared jam and peanut butter containers and dishes were not clean. Furnishings were sticky. No room service tidying during stay. One room had no soap or shampoo in containers. Stairs are uneven and tripping hazard.

The rooms could use a bit of refreshing, but ours was very clean and everything worked just fine. Very quiet location with flowers and other nice touches that made the place look attractive and well-cared-for. The breakfast room is nicely renovated. Breakfast choices were a bit limited-- I remember muffins, bagels, bread, cold cereal, instant oatmeal, plus coffee and tea-- and the fridge and sink were not very clean. Overall, we would recommend, and would stay here again.

Pros: the property is in a pretty area. The beds were clean and comfortable. It seemed to be the only place to stay in the small town at that time (another place is opening soon). The hospitality room for tea/coffee and toast was nice to have access to. The other guests were lovely. The one staff member I met was pleasant. Cons: the hotel is either short staffed for cleaners or the people who clean don't know how. My feet were black minutes after taking my shoes off in my room. I could almost write "please clean me" in the bottom rim of the tub that needed a SCRUB, not a light misting if that was done. There was a line behind the bathroom door as though nobody had cleaned the floor behind the door for a very long time (I checked, it wasn't stain, it was dirt). The room had a cheap plug-in overpowering deodorizer that I was thankful my sister found, because it was SO strong I could barely breath. We put it outside and aired out the room. And the hospitality room floor had also not been cleaned as evidenced by the old tea/coffee drips that could easily be wiped up. Luckily we took it with a grain of salt and were happy to have a place to stay in the small town. But I've travelled with picky people and they may have had an issue. Also, the price for what we received was about double what I'd expect, but to be fair, it's a quiet town in the winter, and I'm sure they need to make up for that in the summer to keep the hotel open, which we were thankful to have.

The owners have been working on upgrading this property and it’s much more comfortable than in years past. This hotel is about the only option in town but the staff is great, accommodating, and really try. Continental breakfast is above average and nice for those early mornings.

My room was clean, well lit, with a lovely view of a grove of trees. The Hospitality Room, where the breakfast is available, is open all day, so I was able to toast some of my bread and make sandwiches. The flowers around the outdoor seating area are beautiful. This is a "working person" motel, with space to park rigs/boats, fish cleaning station, and ease of access. The staff person is friendly, helpful, and cheerful.
