During your holiday in Glyngøre, you’re sure to experience nature at her very best. The Limfjord is probably Glyngøre’s biggest attraction, but there’s also plenty of scenery to enjoy, with beautiful paths going through the woods or over heather-covered heathland. Try your hand at a wide range of sporting activities, and round off an active day with grilled fish on the harbour front.
Glyngøre is a small town perched on a finger of land projecting out into the Sallingsund around 15miles north of Skive. It started life as a port and dates back to 1445. Fishing has always been a major part of life in Glyngøre, and fish conserves and frozen foods are still an important industry in the town to this day.
Glyngøre Harbour is still the focal point of many activities, and you can take sailing trips around the fjord from here. You can experience a bit of Danish culture first hand by calling in at the reddish-brown building known as "Stærkassen", where fish boxes have been made for decades and that is now used as an assembly room. Salling Aqua Park is also located on the harbour – perfect for divers who wish to explore the fjord from underneath the surface.
A short distance away from the harbour by foot is the Glyngøre Kulturstation, where you can learn more about the local area and its history. Close by is the Roman-style Glyngøre Church, which was built in 1919. If you’re interested in architectural marvels, don’t forget to see (and drive over) the towering 7-mile-long Sallingsund Bridge.
Railway traffic stopped in the 1970s, and so the easiest way to get to Glyngøre is by road. If using public transport, take the train to Skive and then continue by bus.
Enjoy a wonderful corner of the Limfjord in Glyngøre. If the kids are with you, spice up your stay with a visit to Jesperhus Blomsterpark, featuring amusements and rides set in an ocean of flowers and butterflies.
