Galley Bay is a scenic and serene bay overlooked by an exclusive spa resort. The crystal clear water of the Caribbean Sea calmly laps the white sand, where pelicans dip and dive. Get a Tahitian-style hut facing the sea and appreciate the seclusion of your private beach balcony.
Wander along the length of the beach with your partner in this romantic setting. The beach is 0.75 miles (1.2 kilometers) long and is set in the midst of tropical vegetation. Rest in the shade of one of the many swaying palm trees that adorn the sandy strand. Rent a chair and umbrella and relax with your partner or friends for the afternoon. The beach is notable for its utter seclusion and tranquility.
Bring snorkeling gear for a close-up view of the colorful fish in the sea. On calm days, the visibility around the cove is best on the northeastern part of the beach. Look for sea turtles, who occasionally use the beach for nesting. Make use of the non-motorized boats and watersports equipment from the resort. The hotel has three excellent open-air restaurants serving seafood and other tasty meals and snacks.
Relax on the beach or sunbathe in isolation on your balcony. Cool down in the individual plunge pool outside your room or go for a swim in the resort’s private pool. Admire the design of the Tahitian cottages, with brightly colored interiors. Play tennis or go jogging on one of the picturesque trails.
Note that the beach is open to the resort’s guests as well as the public. However, it is rarely crowded and has few vendors.
Galley Bay is in the northwestern corner of the Five Islands district on the western flank of the island of Antigua. Drive west from St. John’s for 5 miles (8 kilometers) to get here in about 20 minutes. See nearby attractions, including Deep Bay Beach, Yepton Beach and Fort Barrington.
