"The Thaxter Hotel was good (not great). We like the easy access and check-in/check-out process. The rooms are clean and quirky, bathrooms are nice but the bed was pretty uncomfortable. We picked this hotel based on its proximity to The Library restaurant which was literally right around the corner. No views from the rooms but we only stayed one night so it was no big deal. It is an easy walk to just about anything in Portsmouth (a great little town). I don't know that I would rush back to...

"We absolutely loved this hotel. It is a Lark Hotel and we stayed at a similar one in Saratoga Springs. The staff, Carma, was excellent and the hotel was beautiful, with great atmosphere. It was walking distance to the downtown Portsmouth area and had ample parking. The breakfast was also delicious, all in all, a great experience. "

"The room was clean. The bed was a little too firm for my liking, but we were only there one night so it was manageable. Anything longer and I would have needed a foam mattress pad or something. Staff were very friendly. Breakfast was decent for a quick bite. Nice place for a low price. "

"Very convenient to shopping, restaurants and Music Hall. Very friendly staff including restaurant waitstaff, registration desk and parking valet. Mattress very comfortable. Negatives: the city water smelled and tasted horrible. The shower in our room 447 had low pressure and the toilet had diffficulty flushing. Our friends who stayed elsewhere in the same hotel did not have the plumbing problems other than poor tasting water. Our room had no surfaces on which to place luggage or clothing...

"This place was clean and comfortable. I had an issue with the tub faucet, but I reported it and I am sure the problem is resolved. The staff were so nice and helpful! The breakfast was as good. There’s a great restaurant a stone’s throw away called The Roundabout - we went there for dinner. I would stay at this place again. "

"The room attendant appeared with the glove I left in the room, just as we we leaving the hotel..with a smile. Also, I received and email an hour later that we had left medications in the room. We will pick them up on our return trip to Portsmouth tomorrow. What fabulous staff"
