A holiday in Farsund could involve boat trips to explore the old waterways and windsurfing on the incredible waves. Farsund is a town in Vest-Agder, situated in the very south of Norway, facing the North Sea. The town can be reached by boat in a crossing protected by the islands, avoiding the harsh weather of the open sea, and its Norwegian name originally meant ‘navigable strait’. Do not miss the Lyset på Lista (Lights at Lista), a cabin with glass windows that allows you to enjoy the sand dunes and spectacular light, regardless of the weather.
You can look forward to authentic Norwegian coastal experiences when visiting Farsund. Visit Nordberg Fort, a protected German coastal artillery facility from the Second World War. Loshavn is a port dating back to the days of sailing ships, featuring one of the best-preserved settlements of wooden houses in Southern Norway. For a good view, climb Varbak, a beautiful lookout point in the centre of Farsund.
The region offers a multitude of water-based activities and it’s easy to rent all the equipment you’ll need. Many festivals are held here during the summer, including the Nordsjøfestivalen (North Sea Festival), and all offer outstanding experiences.
Once you’ve travelled to Norway, Farsund is easy to reach by car. It is located along the E39, 5.5 hours’ drive from Oslo International Airport and 2.5 hours from Stavanger Airport, both of which welcome flights from the UK. There are no trains or buses that run all the way to Farsund from the surrounding towns, so hiring a car is advised.
A holiday in Norway can be just as exciting and rich in activities as any trip to warmer climates. Farsund offers genuine Norwegian coastal activities as well as incredible scenery.
