Reasonable value for money is all you really need to know! Breakfast a bit on the expensive side. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Good location for transport systems.

Property was sufficient for a short stay although room quite small. Staff very friendly and happy to help. Rooms were cleaned every day. Area around had a lot of building work going on which was noisy and dusty. Further out not the sort of city you would feel safe walking around on your own.

Hot, Noisy and smokers outside.
Had a first floor room, not overlooking the Railway line, unfortunately we had the main road. No problem keep the windows shut. But we couldn't as the room was far too hot. So windows open and the smokers stood underneath all hours smoking, which filled the room with cigarette and pipe smoke. So why not put on the air conditioning, simply it didn't work. Didn't bother mentioning to the hotel front desk staff, what could they do about it? Possibly move us to another hot noisy room.

ibis in Essen
Handy for station and city. Reception not very friendly and struggled to find our booking. Room was clean and had air con. Seemed small though even by ibis standards and larger people would struggle with bathroom. Bed very comfy. If sitting on the mini sofa in room beware as you could easily hit your back on window ledge. Remote control for tv didn't work, suspect batteries flat and with ibis 15 minute promise they would probably have fixed if we asked.

Great breakfast
We stopped over in Essen for one night. The room is very small, especially the bathroom. The hotel is right next to the HBF and you can hear the trains and announcement. A bit noisy, but did not really affect my sleep. The bed is not very comfortable. The breakfast was very good (probably the best part of the hotel). In addition to £73 for one night, we also had to pay €10 for parking over night. It is a bit expensive for what we get.

Convenient & comfortable, but Essen not nice city
The hotel is very convenient for the train station, and yet not too noisy. Unfortunately Essen as a whole is a bit dodgy - not a place to walk around solo at night if possible. Hotel room was compact but convenient. Bed was very comfortable. Shame the room must once have been smoked in as could still smell it - not nice. The hotel staff were very helpful, letting me access my room early on day of check in, and then looking after my luggage on day of check out. Overall, if I have to visit Essen again then I would certainly stay here; but ideally just avoid staying in Essen at all.
