Enjoy the scenery as you look out from the longest bridge in the state of Campeche. It’s particularly pretty at dawn and dusk.

El Zacatal Bridge is a vast structure linking the Isla del Carmen to the Atasta peninsula, on the Mexican mainland. This concrete beam bridge is an impressive architectural feat and was the longest of its kind in the country at the time of its construction in the 1990s. Stand at the beginning of the bridge and snap photos of its long and winding trajectory.

Drive along the extensive structure, which is 2.4 miles (3.9 kilometers) long, and enjoy the views of the Términos Lagoon to the southeast and the Gulf of Mexico on the opposite side. The bridge is 30 feet (9 meters) wide, comprising two driving lanes and short, yellow side barriers. Admire the arched course over this stylish channel, as it drops and rises at various points.

Relax on the stretch of sand on the southeastern side of the bridge and walk amid the swaying palm trees. Bring a picnic to enjoy with a scenic view of the great yellow structure. Spot the array of boats in the distance.

Visit the bridge at sunrise or sunset for the best photo opportunities. See the reddening hues of the night sky reflected on the water around the bridge. Wander along the picturesque coast of the Isla del Carmen to vary your vista. At night, the streetlamps that are spread evenly along the bridge light it up, while the decorative lights on the bridge’s underside reflect a purple haze onto the water below.

The structure was completed in 1994 and has since become an extremely popular roadway, since it is a convenient link between the rest of Mexico and the Yucatán Peninsula.

El Zacatal Bridge is in the southwestern corner of Ciudad del Carmen, linking the promontory to the Atasta area. Arrive at Ciudad del Carmen International Airport and drive southwest for about 10 minutes to reach the foot of the bridge. Visit nearby attractions, including the Monumento statue, the Parque Infantil playground and the Guanal Church.
