El Sargento is a charming coastal town filled with seafood restaurants and hotels. Its white-sand beaches are the main attraction in this serene spot on Ventana Bay. See how it has developed from a traditional fishing and ranching hamlet into a more dynamic and modern town, while maintaining its traditional atmosphere.
Visit between November and March for the most comfortable and dry weather or come at other times for lighter crowds. Make use of the consistent breeze by flying a kite on the beach or going kitesurfing. The unspoiled beach is ideal for sunbathing. Go for a swim in the clear water of the bay with your family or join the surfers in the bay and take lessons in windsurfing from one of the watersports schools.
Stay at one of the many hotels near the beach. Try the fresh shrimp dishes at the seafood restaurants. The people of this town and its neighbor, La Ventana, are known for their relaxed and friendly manner. Stop in the shops and chat with the locals about their handicrafts. You can get all types of traditional Mexican souvenirs here, from artisanal crafts to regional coffee beans.
Embark on a boat tour of the bay and stop at Isla Cerralvo. Here, you can go on a fishing excursion or snorkel or scuba dive among the countless colorful fish. Back in El Sargento, watch the glorious sunset from a beach bar and sleep beneath the stars in one of the campgrounds and trailer parks.
The town overlooks Ventana Bay, just 30 miles (50 kilometers) east of La Paz. Drive here from La Paz to arrive in less than 1 hour. See some of the other destinations in the area, such as Isla Espiritu Santo, El Zacatal and Isla Cerralvo. El Sargento is a serene coastal stop away from the city hubbub of La Paz.
