"The 5 stars is based on the Expedia value and I arrived after dark. With current exchange I paid $46usd for a standard double room. The property has blemishes but it was a tremendous value (even before exchange). My experience was one night and I didn't soak in the public bath. But the residents appeared to enjoy it. "Incredible stay! The ryokan experience was unforgettable – a memory for life. The staff was knowledgeable and respectful. The public onsen views were stunning, plus there’s a private onsen option for a fee. The free shuttle to and from the train station was super convenient. Highly recommend!"

"Comfort hotel is always the best no frill hotel available to when visit Japan. It doesn’t have a lot of bell and whistle like other hotel, but it always have reasonable size room and hearty and healthy breakfast to keep you going when travelling around Japan."

Epitome of relaxation. The perfect ryokan

"We stayed for just one night to expierence the best this ryokan had to offer and man did it exceed all our expectations. To truly know, book one of their 4 suites. The #500 rooms. Massive rooms with authentic tatami mats, personal and private onsen that is open air facing the beautiful lake, out of this world seasonal dinner/breakfast course. The area is secluded enough to be quiet but not far from the local town. Cute and quaint souvenir shop. Oh and the bidet toilet is the best we've ever seen. Lastly, the staff is extremely accommodating, friendly, and helpful. They know english very well too. They have a shuttle that does pick up and drop off from Ogotoonsen Station so skip the taxi and call the resort when you get there. If you have cell service there is a free cell phone that you can use to call the resort. Theres also a guide of numbers for all the resorts in the area. To wrap up, book a night at this ryokan you will not regret treating yourself to a time of lavish luxury. "

"If you are looking for a remote lake get away in northern Otsu this is ideal. This location suits the out door adventure types who want to be away from Otsu city. The lake was an amazing place to swim. What also would be a Great Lake side party atmosphere and relaxation with a group of friends. Amazing cleanliness despite the overall facility being quite old. However rooms and common room air conditioned which was a life saver in the hight of a Japanese summer. The Hostel is not located near any shops and not close to the train station so be prepared to do some serious walking or better rent a bike whilst you are there."
