Double O Arch

One of the most striking natural features of the Devils Garden area, this massive arch is a must-see in the northern part of Arches National Park.

Put Double O Arch at the top of your list for your visit to the Devils Garden area in Arches National Park. It is actually not one, but two arches, one atop the other. The 4.2-mile (6.8-kilometer) round-trip hike to Double O is considered strenuous.

Start your hike to Double O Arch at the Devils Garden parking area. The Devils Garden Trail is wide, level and typically quite busy, remaining that way until Landscape Arch. At approximately 0.25 mile (0.4 kilometer) into the trail, veer to the left at the fork to go to Landscape and Double O arches. Later, you can return to the fork, bear right and visit Pine Tree and Tunnel arches. After 0.8 mile (1.2 kilometer), you will reach Landscape Arch, one of the longest stone spans in the world.

From this point, continue on to the Primitive Trail, which is less developed. The larger arc of Double O Arch is 71 feet (22 meters) across and stacked on the smaller arch, which is 21 feet (6 meters) across. Both arches are part of the same sandstone fin.

Just beyond Double O Arch is a spur trail leading north for views of Dark Angel Arch in the distance.

Combine your hike to Double O with a visit to Navajo and Partition arches. These are both close to Landscape Arch and are accessible via the Navajo Arch side trail. Notice Partition’s window-like arch northwest of Landscape Arch and the Navajo Arch parallel to Partition to the southwest.

Another option, if you’re looking to add steps, is to continue northeast on the Primitive loop before returning from Double O Arch. Circle up to the northern section of the Gardens for a view of Private Arch.

Find Double O Arch at the far end of the Devils Garden Primitive Trail. It is 2.1 miles (3.4 kilometers) past the Devils Garden trailhead and the parking lot at the north end of the Arches National Park road. Stay on the loop road instead of turning into the Devils Garden Campground. Purchase a one-week or annual park pass for access to the national park.
