I found my stay at the Hyatt Place hotel in downtown Des Moines to be a good experience. The staff were friendly and helpful, the breakfast good, and the accommodation nice. The hotel is a little worn for wear, but it was very clean and a great value for the price while I was attending a conference in the city. Overall, I would choose this location again should I need to travel to Des Moines in the future.

Visited Des Moines with a group of 6 couples. Each couple had issues with the shower in their room. Either very low water pressure and/or some with no hot water. I know it’s a downtown building - but Hyatt may have to invest to ensure this isn’t an issue as it’s one of the most important aspects of a stay.

Aside from the location of this hotel, nothing else was good. The front desk staff was very rude, and at times, my partner and I felt they were discriminatory. I stayed from October 28 to October 31 and paid $450 for three nights, which was mediocre at best. The front desk staff, especially the girl who was there on the nights of the 28th and 30th, was particularly rude. I have traveled and stayed in many hotels, and they usually provide two bottles of drinking water per day. When we asked for our bottles for the next day, she claimed they were only for elite members. The girl on the 29th gave us bottles without any questions, but the girl who checked us in and the one on the 30th insisted the bottles were only for elite members. She was also very dismissive during check-in and didn't inform us about any amenities; we had to ask about everything. There was no courtesy at all. It felt like we were scammed and betrayed. The breakfast was nearly as disappointing as the front desk service. The menu was the same every day: scrambled eggs, egg frittata, bagels, milk, cereal, and juice. There were no fresh-cut fruits, and everything was mediocre in terms of taste and quality. They need to train their staff better. Overall, the worst experience ever in the hotel that I have stayed in so far. I would never stay at any Hyatt hotel again and would not recommend anyone to stay there.

I want to say Hyatt Place Downtown Des Moines was wonderful - but unfortunately, overall, I can't. I CAN say the front desk staff and the cleaning staff were great - welcoming, nice, positive, accommodating, helpful, etc. Even considering the cleaning crew was short-staffed! What was unimpressive was the following: While I don't mind vintage, Hyatt Place Des Moines is well past time for a remodel and upgrade. Things were a bit messy, the kitchen area was messy (when wasn't serving), and a number of things were broken and/or missing. Especially in my room - plugs in didn't work, light shade broken, lights weren't working, sofa and furniture was scuffed and worn. WiFi was terrible, tv worked some of the time, and shower was either cold or scalding hot. Windows were dirty, and my room key had to be exchanged three times b/c it wouldn't work. Very few amenities and no snacks other than popcorn. Bar wasn't open. Workout room was popular and as sad as could be - two treadmills but only one worked but poorly (noise, squeaked). Overuse will cause it to be out of service soon. It was also stifling hot in the workout room - no fans. Update this place - location is pretty good and it has a great staff and some charm - just bare, old and outdated. I wont stay there again until some upgrades happen.

This property is old and run down, needs to be remodeled. I had to get 3 different sets of card keys because none worked . No parking, you had to pay extra 30 dollars for garage across street filled with homeless people. Didn’t feel my car was safe or me. The breakfast was good.

Being able to take the skywalk to the farmers market and the marathon was a really cool amenity. Parking has changed a lot since I was a college student here, but a more lively downtown is a good trade.
