Dargah Yousufain is a mosque and memorial devoted to two saints who are buried at the site. Their tombs lie in the centre of the building, which is ornately decorated from the tiled floor to the gold-colored dome. The mosque in Nampally, west of the city centre, is popular with followers of many different faiths and is recognised as a protected cultural site in India.
Enter Dargah Yousufain through a gold-colored arch. Make your way to the inner sanctum with its glossy, patterned walls. From inside, the dome and upper walls are silver and are covered in an inscription of verses from the Quran.
Pay your respects to the two Muslim Sufi saints buried in the centre of the mosque. Learn about the legend surrounding Hazrath Syed Shah Yousufuddin and Syed Shah Sharifuddin. Their tombs are covered in an orange-and-green sheet. Admire the chandeliers that hang above them.
Outside the mosque, make a trip to the Hyderabad Deccan Railway Station, an iconic landmark in the area. It was built in 1907 and is today one of the main train stations in Hyderabad. The Bagh-e-Aam Gardens are next to the mosque.
Nampally is known as a particularly humid area and takes its name from the Urdu word for “wet place.” This means the area is often lush and green. Bring a picnic and enjoy the serene atmosphere amid the grass, trees and lakes in the park.
The Daragh Yousufain mosque was constructed during the rule of the Nizams. The nearest train station to the mosque is Hyderabad, which is less than five minutes away on foot. You can also travel by bus to Gandhi Bhavan bus stop. The mosque is open daily and is free to enter.
