Cheap flights to Moscow
Moscow is a metropolis in the truest sense of the word. With over 11 million residents, it is an official world megacity, and has all the cosmopolitan edges to go with it. From the iconic Soviet-era Ostankino TV Tower to its trendy bar and restaurant scene, Moscow has everything you could need for an unforgettable Russian break.
When to book cheap flights to Moscow
Cheap flights to Moscow are not really easy to come by: you’ll need to book early to secure a deal. The ferocious winter means July and August are probably the best times to visit if you’re looking for good weather. If you tire of sightseeing, this is also an excellent time of year to trek into the nearby Russian wilderness.
Of course, so long as you wrap up warm and bag yourself a pair of good snow boots, winter shows off Moscow at its quintessential best. Covered in snow, the famous Red Square makes a picture perfect view.
How to find the best deals to Moscow
Due to the city’s size and global significance, cheap flights to Moscow are not always available. However, you may be able to save money by booking in advance. Remaining as flexible as possible on travel dates is also a good way of pinching a few pennies.
Be sure to compare direct and indirect flights too – while the latter take longer, they can sometimes be cheaper.
While direct flights depart from London, many other departure points will require a connection.

How to get around in Moscow
It shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise to learn that the planet’s 12th largest city has a fairly reliable transport system! While you’ll find trains, trams, buses, taxis, ferries and even limos available, using the underground metro system is the best way to avoid traffic. Traffic jams are an almost constant occurrence above ground.
However, exploring individual districts on foot is also a lot of fun in the right weather, particularly in the Arbat district. Here, when the sun is shining artists, street performers and tourists all come to enjoy the festive atmosphere.
What are the must-sees in Moscow?
Sitting on the banks of the Moskva River, the Russian capital has a skyline almost as eclectic as its timeline. It’s a joy to take in.
Moscow’s rich history can be experienced in Red Square. Home to the Kremlin, Red Square is also flanked by Assumption Cathedral and the city’s most recognisable landmark, St Basil's Cathedral, easily identified by its nine colourful domes.
Tips for travelling in Moscow
A visa is required for all British travellers visiting Moscow. You’ll need to arrange this before you visit. Russia is famously bureaucratic, so ensure you apply for your visa well in advance of your trip, especially during busy times.
If you’re travelling on a new passport (namely, one with a chip) be sure you have signed it. Some visitors to Russia have been turned away at the border for not doing so.
