The smoking area makes you feel like a prisoner, dirty ans no seats.
You are given a key for the balcony in your room that does not unlock the door. It was a relatively cold night and the aircon did not even work and they could not fix it. .
To top it all, there was not even a bottle of water in the room which ALL hotels do, to rinse your mouth when you brush your teeth. I can almost say with confidence that this is an absolute necessity im Clanwilliam as the water coming out of tge tap is a light shade of brown.
At breakfast, I witnessed one of the servers cleaning a table and dropped a fork on the floor. She just picked it up and put it on the table again. Until I asked should she not have it washed having fell on the floor.
Such a sad state that a historical hotel like this is going absolutely to the digs. Clearly the management do not care, or are just incompetent.
The general state of the hotel is old, run down, with creaky floors and threadbare carpets.
Shocking and disgusting.
I will NEVER stay there again. Would rather spend a night in my car.

This is a basic hotel. Bed was comfortable and bathroom was clean. Bedding and towels were old and discoloured. Pool area in need of attention. Meals were ok but little choice as items were unavailable. Not much in the area

COVID Protocols not observed
The room and beds were fine. Covid protocols were not observed or enforced at all in public spaces and even the front desk. The restaurant was packed, no social distancing between tables or when people stood up at the buffet. Buffet meals are unacceptable in SA in this lockdown. Really disappointing as otherwise the hotel was fine, but it felt like a super-spreader event to me. The guests were a real problem, but management did nothing.
Would have liked to stay in the hotel section but even though the lady I spoke to said she would move us into the hotel. We were put in the back rooms again.I would like to stay in the hotel next time. The food in the hotel was surprisingly excellent. And the waiter was fantastic.

Not the greatest experience
We did not know about there restaurant. Worst welcome we have ever received. Went online to look for a place for dinner. The hotel does not feature in the top 10 in Clanwilliam. Breakfast was the worst I had in years. Cold sausage. Cold eggs (scramble and fried all ahead of time - you don't have a choice of how you would prefer your eggs done. Bacon was very chewy. The juice was some concentrate that wasn't mixed very well. We actually met a few other people at the restaurant we had dinner at who also had a similar experience about not knowing that the hotel has a restaurant for dinner. Don't think I will be back there again.
Lovely hotel, great rooms, beds are extra comfy. Great staff, very friendly and helpfull. Hotel is very central and it is a nice town for a walk-about. The only real negative was that the breakfast and supper was a bit of a disappointment, quality of restaurant seems to have gone down. Overall though it was a good stay.
We stayed one night in the hotel during our travel from the West Coast to Northen Cape.
The hotel is nicely located on the central street, the town looks very neat. The rooms are spacious and in good condition. The pool in the inner garden is very appreciated in the summer. The restaurant serves dinner (good quality and reasonably priced). The reception personnel were very helpful with the local information.
Things to be aware of. The wifi (free of charge) is not very stable, and seems to work reliably only in the conference room. The parking in the hotel backyard is very limited, and guests are encouraged to leave the car in the street (we did so, without any trouble). The breakfast was good, but a bit chaotic: while nominally starting at 0700, the full selection of foods available was not on the tables before 0730 (not appreciated if one is keen to get on with onward travel before the midday heat).
Wenn man laute Gäste auf der Etage hat, wird es nervig, da die Flure sehr hallen. Das Personal ist äußerst zuvorkommend und hilft bei allen Angelegenheiten, macht auch Termine etc.

The hotel should at least provide some basic toiletries that is standard in hotels.
