In the Middle Ages, Bénodet was the commercial port of Quimper, from where fish, wine, cereals and wood were shipped around the world. It started to expand in the early 20th century with the fashion for swimming in the sea and the emergence of yachting. Since then, it has become a renowned seaside resort.
Bénodet certainly has no shortage of beaches, such as the beaches of Letty, Le Coq, Saint-Gilles and Trez, to name just a few, but the town also offers a number of options for excursions, such as the chapelle de Perguet, the musée du bord de mer (Seaside Museum), the Pyramide and Le Coq lighthouses, the church of Saint Thomas or, more surprisingly, the purely Moroccan-style villa du Minaret.
You can also enjoy an 8-mile hike on the boucle des Corniches and sample delicious crêpes and other Breton specialities in the town's many restaurants. After spending a day on one of the boats from the marina, head for Relais Thalasso to relax before ending your evening at Bénodet Casino!
There's also plenty to see in the surrounding area: the Bigouden, Cornouaille, the headland of Cap Sizun, Pont-Aven, Concarneau, Quimper, Crozon peninsula, the list goes on. You'll be spoilt for choice! In addition, the "L'été en fête" summer music festival is held every year, with painters' studios dotted around the town.
