Really a 4 star that is still figuring things out. 1. Upon checkin they gave me a room that was on the lowest floor that looked out to the roof and mechanical devices. The floor smelt, but they were able to clean that after being notified. 2. Hours later I was able to move to a higher floor and the new room did not have any hand soap, the entire jar was missing so there was just a hole where the jar was supposed to be. I notified the reception and they said they would send it right up. Three hours later, still no hand soap. I went for dinner and notified them I still hadn’t received hand soap. A few hours later I returned from dinner and once again there was no hand soap. I finally received a knock on the door 5.5-6 hours after requesting soap only to be handed an additional body wash jar and notified that the hotel had run out of soap and that “body wash” was practically the same. 3. I found a small baggy in the bedding. It was small and had a white residue inside (looked like Coke). I took a picture I was so shocked. 4. Tea and biscuits were not replenished after housekeeping. No coffee machine with espresso pods or anything. 5. Hotel was notified in advance it was my birthday and no card/upgrades/or anything (my next 4 star hotel at least gave me a card) 6. As an advertised five star these features were also not present: no turndown service, the room was not tidied during housekeeping & there was no doorman. If you want a Five Star experience - Try the Merchant.

Staff are generally not very well trained or managed. Bar staff kept bringing drinks that weren’t ours and took a 15 mins to bring our drinks at a quiet time. They then brought the bill after we’d had 2 rounds which was a little embarrassing because they clearly thought we were going to run off without paying. When I asked why we couldn’t keep the tab open the waiter said it was hotel policy. They could have take a preauthorisation if his was their policy. It’s not what you’d expect from a 4 or 5 star. But staff generally are poor. Parking facilities are a 10 minute walk away. Lifts were very busy at times.

Prime, central location, ideal for exploring the city. Good breakfast service. Reception staff excellent. Comfortable, spacious room but the foam mattress tilted at an angle when I lay on it, making for an uncomfortable sleep. Drinks in hotel very expensive.

Very central location. Easy to walk to shopping areas and other downtown sites. We took both a walking tour and used the hop on hop off bus which were easy to walk to. While the breakfast was fine the toaster was hit and miss - either burnt the toast or didn’t brown it enough and there were not a lot of varied fruits to choose from. Also found the small bread rolls rather hard. The evening meals we had were very good.

Check-in was slow despite the fact that there were no other customers in the reception area. We were then assigned to a room, only to find that it was occupied, with clothes all over the bed and open suitcases. Thankfully, there was nobody in the room! Returned to reception for another long wait and we were assigned another room (that was excellent) and given a voucher for complimentary cocktails at The Observatory Bar - cocktails that we were then asked to pay for on two different occasions (one at the bar, one at check-out)! Following our stay, we then found out that a bottle of bubbly that had been purchased for us by a family member (a surprise) had been sent to the original room… but never moved to the new one, so we were not aware of it until disappointed family member was told the tale! Whoever was in the original room didn’t report the bubbly to reception, or they did and reception didn’t action it. Who knows. Now, the cost of said bubbly was refunded following a call and the Front of House manager also offered to assist with any future bookings in order to offer “the best deals” and this was appreciated… but for a hotel with such a reputation, these cluster of mistakes should not have happened in the first place, especially the debacle with the room. Very, very grateful that there were no guests in that room when we walked in and that we could beat a hasty repeat leaving them unaware of the brief disturbance!

Location in central Belfast was great. Hotel is impressive; nice roof-top bar views of the city and relaxing atmosphere. Hotel full breakfast was good for the price and convenient. Room and view were good. Service was lacking--front desk was hard to get, roof-top bar service was slow, and no one came to fix the in-room safe after a service call was placed. Appears the hotel was under-staffed. Off-site parking requires walk of about four city blocks. Was a challenge dragging luggage through crowded streets.

The food service in the restaurant was horrible. While the fodd was very good and the restaurant are was nice the service was almost nonexistent. After being seated we waited about 10 to 15 minutes and finally had to flag someone down to take our orders , we had to ask for water 3 times, they got my wifes order wrong, we had to ask for bread twice and then they charged us fo 2 servings, no one ever came by on thier own we always had to get someones attention, then it took another lengthy wait just to pay the bill. The overall stay at the hotel was very good and the service, other than the restaurant was excellent.
