Azpeitia, settled in the shade of the Izarraitz massif, is a town in Gipuzkoa known for its sanctuary, but it won’t take long to discover it has much more to offer.

Azpeitia is a town in the province of Gipuzkoa, at the foot of the Izarraitz massif. Book a holiday in Azpeitia and get ready to admire the greenery and fill your lungs with fresh air.

The Iba-Eder reservoir offers a circular walking route that’s over 4 miles long. Nestled between mountains, you’ll see splendid landscapes that you won't soon forget. Visit during the summer months of July and August, when the average temperature is around 20 degrees, and you’ll definitely want to take a quick dip.

Though if it's a real hiking route you're after, the Urola green path, which is some 13.5 miles long, is your best option. During your walk, you’ll have the chance to see such wonders as the sanctuary of Loyola, one of the largest in the Basque Country. In fact, this monumental complex consists of several buildings, a basilica and gardens, so set a few hours aside so you can really explore them.

The green path, or Vía Verde, will also allow you to visit the Basque Railway Museum, which is home to a wide range of railway-related materials of all kinds. The museum is certainly a must-see for anyone who’s passionate about trains. If that's not really your cup of tea, you can visit the Museum of the Environment, made up of 12 themed areas, designed for you to learn everything there is to know about natural resources and the environment.
