Ayamonte is divided into four town centres separated by the estuaries and marshes that bathe the surrounding areas. Its mix of ocean and river ports, beaches and estuaries, nature and urban setting offers the best of both worlds, and all right on the doorstep of neighbouring Portugal, separated only by the River Guadiana.
Inhabited since Roman times, as evidenced by the remnants of the nearby necropolis, the cheap trips to Ayamonte you’ll find on our website will let you experience the town's atmosphere and mix of history and modernity for yourself.
The main town, Ayamonte, built around the river, is home to the most important religious and public buildings, with chapels such as Capilla de Nuestra Señora del Carmen, Capilla del Socorro and Capilla de San Antonio, the latter of which dates back to the 16th Century, and was founded by a guild of sailors. The largest church is Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de las Angustias, a whitewashed, Andalusian-style church built at the foot of the River Guadiana. It’s home to the image of La Vírgen de las Angustias, Our Lady of Sorrows, which was found miraculously in the middle of the River Guadiana.
Book one of our trips to Ayamonte and discover El Baluarte de las Angustias, a defensive wall with watchtowers that played a key role in the history of Ayamonte.
When you enjoy your package deal to Ayamonte, keep in mind that the best beaches are on Isla Canela, the part of the town located on the shores of the ocean. Considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Spain, its strategic location near Huelva and Portugal make it an even more attractive destination.
Make sure not to forget to pack your bathing suit and get ready to enjoy a holiday full of tradition, relaxation and history. While you’re there, be sure to grab your passport and cross the river into Portugal for a relaxing cup of coffee.
