This peaceful Sardinian town features ancient tombs and burial sites as well as pristine beaches and exclusive resorts of Costa Smeralda.

Arzachena is a quaint market town offering visitors experiences of the true Sardinian way of life. Wander down narrow streets to discover ancient churches and local markets, visit centuries-old tombs and relax on Costa Smeralda’s glorious beaches. Arzachena sits in the northeastern corner of Sardinia, a short drive from the sparkling Mediterranean Sea.

At the heart of Arzachena is Piazza Risorgimento, a pretty cobblestone square with several boutiques and cafés. Visit the 18th-century Church of Santa Maria della Neve or sit on a bench and watch as locals meet to chat over coffee. Stroll along Corso Garibaldi to find bars, restaurants and shops. Along the town centre’s narrow streets, admire colourful houses and spot neighbours conversing between their balconies. Learn about Arzachena’s bread-making culture at the Museo del Pane (Bread Museum).

Discover curious natural attractions and ancient historical sites on the outskirts of Arzachena. Walk to Roccia del Fungo (Mushroom Rock), a strange, mushroom-shaped rock offering great views across the town. Catch a public bus to Nuraghe Albucciu, an archaeological site that preserves the remains of a millennia-old Nuragic village. Buses also run to Li Muri Necropolis, a set of Neolithic graves dating back to about 3000 B.C., and the impressive Li Lolghi Giant’s Tomb.

A holiday in Arzachena isn’t complete without exploring breathtaking Costa Smeralda. Rent a car or scooter and drive past vineyards and olive groves to a coastline of pristine beaches. Capriccioli Beach, Romazzino Beach and Principe Beach are all perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Take a boat trip to the secluded Isola di Mortorio and check out the exclusive resorts of Porto Cervo.

Reach Arzachena by flying to Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport and travel to your final destination via public bus or rented car. Stay at independent guesthouses in the town centre or one of the many beachfront hotels and resorts. Arzachena’s history, scenic countryside and idyllic beaches make it a popular year-round destination for couples, honeymooners and families.
