"I imagine this hotel was nice… 20 years ago when the photos advertising it were taken. Such a shame because it’s a nice building in a lovely area. I can’t speak for the original building itself, maybe those rooms are better kept, but we were placed in the outbuilding across the way and the rooms were incredibly tired and shoddy, with chipped paintwork and soiled carpet. The toilet was stained and there were no toiletries in the bathroom. On arrival, we had to use the telephone as instructed on the main desk to call for someone to come and check us in. Both staff members we encountered looked incredibly young (not an issue in itself of course) however when my partner went to alert the young girl on reception that we had needed to make a police call the night before due to what sounded like DV in the room next door to us, it was clear that this staff member was highly inexperienced. They did not ask any further questions or enquire as to the safety of the room occupant next door. Just said ‘Oh dear’ and left it at that…? Frequent visitors to the area but not sure we would stay again. "
