Overlooking the famous Southend Pier, this is one of England’s most popular amusement parks. Since 1976, Adventure Island’s breathtaking rides have brought joy to families, thrill-seekers and holiday makers. Today, the park is home to more than 50 attractions including roller coasters, children’s rides, restaurants and a programme of live music and fireworks displays.
Buy a colored wristband online or upon arrival to tailor your experience and get the most out of your day. Attractions are divided into three brackets, each aimed at different age groups and allowing unlimited access for the duration of your stay. A blue band is best for those craving the rush of Adventure Island’s fastest rides while the red and green bands are more suited to younger audiences.
Feel the force of Rage, Adventure Island’s signature ride. Named by the BBC as the most thrilling ride in the UK, Rage features a 75-foot (23-metre) drop, a 360-degree roll and travels at up to 43 miles (70 kilometres) per hour. Gaze across the Thames Estuary from atop the Big Wheel. Ride the Sky Drop to the top and check out the pier, before plummeting 70 feet (21 metres) back to land. Watch the kids as they spin around on the pirate-themed Jumpin’ Jolly Rogers or listen for their squeals as they take the Over The Hill ghost train.
From September until early November, the park hosts an evening programme of entertainment each Saturday. Enjoy a meal at the jungle-themed café or onsite pizzeria before watching cover bands, DJs and a breathtaking firework display over the water.
Adventure Island is open daily from June until September and on weekends from September to November. Entry is free however there are fees to access all the rides.
